Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon was indicted on charges of commissioning a political broker, Myung Tae-gyun, to conduct an opinion poll and paying for it through supporter Kim Han-jung. He was sentenced to a fine of 10 million won in the first trial. The court acknowledged that Mayor Oh had commissioned Myung Tae-gyun to conduct an opinion poll before running in the Seoul mayoral by-election and verified the results through former Vice Mayor Kang Cheol-won. It also confirmed that supporter Kim Han-jung paid for the opinion poll, which was deemed a violation of the Political Funds Act. Oh Se-hoon is expected to proceed with the second trial and an appeal to the Supreme Court. Under the special prosecutor law's '6·3·3' principle, his retention of office as mayor is expected to be decided in January next year.
