According to a study by the Korea Rural Economic Institute, wages in domestic food manufacturing and dining industries are lower than those in other industries. In particular, the wage gap for workers with associate degrees or higher is more pronounced, and this is a major reason why highly educated individuals avoid these industries. For the dining industry, the proportion of temporary workers is high, working hours are long, but wages are low, which lowers worker satisfaction and retention rates. The research team suggested that considering the reality that short-term wage increases are difficult, non-monetary compensation measures such as expanding vacation time and introducing flexible work systems should be prepared.
