Three out of every ten Korean adults suffer from high blood pressure, and some patients experience resistant hypertension in which blood pressure does not drop properly despite taking various types of antihypertensive drugs. Renal denervation (RDN) is attracting attention as a new treatment for these patients. RDN is a treatment that lowers blood pressure by blocking the signals of sympathetic nerves around the kidneys that raise blood pressure, and unlike conventional drug therapy, it has the effect of removing the cause of high blood pressure itself. Recently, eRDN using laparoscopy or robots has been developed, making more effective treatment possible. In domestic and international clinical studies, eRDN has proven its safety and sustained blood pressure-lowering effects, providing new hope for patients with resistant hypertension.
