Former high-ranking military officials who were indicted on charges of deploying troops to the National Assembly and the Central Election Management Committee and operating a political arrest team during the 12·3 Emergency Decree have been sentenced to prison. The special prosecution team for insurrection sought a sentence of 30 years in prison for Yeonin-hyung, former commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Command, and Jinwoo Lee, former commander of the Capital Defense Command, 25 years for An-soo Park, former Chief of Staff of the Army, and 20 years each for Jong-geun Kwak, former commander of the Special Warfare Command, and Sang-ho Moon, former commander of the Military Intelligence Command. The special prosecution team criticized the defendants for undermining the core values of democracy and using the military for power maintenance. They also pointed out that the defendants could not use the excuse of superior orders and actively participated in the planning and preparation of the insurrection.
