Anthropic, the AI company developing the Claude language model, will buy thousands of GPUs from AMD to expand its data center infrastructure. The deal will give Anthropic computing capacity up to 2 gigawatts (GW), equivalent to the electricity consumption of hundreds of thousands of homes. This capacity is needed to meet the growing customer demand for Claude and keep the AI model competitive. In addition to supplying chips, AMD and Anthropic will also collaborate on software development, with Claude being used to optimize the performance of AMD GPUs. AMD itself will adopt Claude internally to support engineering and product development processes.
