According to industry sources on the 26th, Samsung Electronics has shared information about its next-generation Tri-Fold project with partners and entered the initial development stage.
A source familiar with the matter said, "Samsung Electronics is preparing four foldable models, including a successor to the Tri-Fold next year," adding, "Specific specifications have not yet been finalized, but the screen size will likely be similar to last year's."
The Tri-Fold is a foldable phone that folds twice. Samsung Electronics launched the first model of 'Galaxy Z Tri-Fold' in December last year. It is the first foldable phone made with an inward double-folding method. The main display is 9.96 inches, and the external display is 6.49 inches, both composed of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). With a 4:3 aspect ratio based on the main display, it can utilize a large screen close to 10 inches, making it advantageous for viewing content such as videos.
A Tri-Fold user said, "The screen is larger, so it's heavier and difficult to use with one hand. However, when unfolded, the large screen provides an overwhelming experience when watching videos or playing mobile games compared to existing foldable phones."
The biggest question is whether Samsung Electronics will increase product volume from the second generation next year. The first-generation product received a hot market response, but the volume was only around 30,000 units.
Another industry source said, "The first Tri-Fold had a high manufacturing cost, so it focused on showcasing technology in the market rather than profitability," adding, "Although nothing has been decided yet, since it has been released and tested once, it is expected that the volume will be increased compared to the previous model."
