The number of basic livelihood security recipients in 2022 was tallied at 2.836 million, a 6.1% increase from the previous year. Of the recipients, 1.21 million, accounting for 44.4%, were elderly people aged 65 and over, which corresponds to 11.2% of the elderly population. By region, Jeollabuk-do (8.2%) had the highest benefit rate, while Sejong (2.6%) had the lowest. Basic livelihood security is a system to support the lives of low-income earners, and those who are below the income standard and have no one to support them can receive benefits.
