There were 12 railway near-miss accidents in the first half of 2023, exceeding the annual total for last year (10 cases). This indicates situations with a high risk of leading to major accidents during railway operation and highlights the need to strengthen preemptive safety management. Over the past five and a half years, a total of 866 railway accidents, near-misses, and operational disruptions have occurred, resulting in 100 fatalities, 75 injuries, and 10.95 billion won in property damage. Fundamental safety measures, such as improvements to railway facility management and operation systems, are urgently needed to ensure railway safety.
