Market research firm Omdia predicted on the 30th that TCL CSOT will enter the notebook rigid OLED market from 2027. Rigid OLED is currently the main product in the notebook OLED market. Summing up Omdia's quarterly shipment data, out of about 12 million notebook OLEDs last year, rigid OLED accounted for more than 99% with 11,930,000 units.
Rigid OLED is thicker and heavier than hybrid and flexible OLED, but it has a higher production yield. It is cheaper and applied to mid-to-low-priced notebooks.
The average yield by panel type is over 90% for rigid OLED. Hybrid OLED is over 70%, and flexible OLED is 50~70%. Hybrid OLED is about 20~40% more expensive than rigid products, and flexible OLED is about 50% more expensive.
Omdia predicted that Lenovo, HP, Asus, Acer, etc. will use rigid OLED for their main and premium notebooks next year as well. If TCL CSOT is added as a supplier, notebook manufacturers can diversify their panel supply chain and increase their price negotiation power.
Currently, Samsung Display is leading the notebook OLED market. Samsung Display produces rigid OLED on its 5.5th generation line and supplies it to HP, Lenovo, Asus, MSI, etc. In the second quarter of this year, Samsung Display's global market share for notebook OLED was 71%, ranking first.
