A fire broke out on a passenger ferry, the Mutiara Sentosa 2, off the coast of East Java, Indonesia. As of now, five people have died, 238 have been rescued, and at least 28 are missing. The fire is believed to have started on the vehicle deck below the ship and spread rapidly in strong winds. There are widespread concerns about maritime safety in Indonesia, and there are opinions that this accident was also caused by an old ship and non-compliance with safety regulations. Authorities plan to conduct a search for up to 14 days.
