This follows the 2024 case of Alice Guo, a Chinese national who disguised herself as a Philippine market participant, and experts are pointing out that nationality theft is recognized as a major route threatening national security. Calls are growing for the Philippine government to strengthen security checks on foreign nationals participating in important infrastructure projects.
