A head of an agricultural cooperative in Gangwon Province is embroiled in controversy for allegedly subjecting employees to workplace harassment, including verbal abuse, violence, and surveillance. The Ministry of Employment and Labor imposed a fine of 5 million won on the head, and the Gangwon Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation plans to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs also intends to investigate suspicions of retaliatory actions and preferential treatment for relatives through an audit in addition to the workplace harassment by the head. While denying the allegations, the head explained that he was simply overly enthusiastic but issued an apology letter to the employees.
