Elderly crime has been on the rise recently. According to a survey by the Korean Institute of Criminology and Law Policy Research, 12.1% of people aged 66 or older experienced crime victimization in the past year. The proportion of property crimes was particularly high, and most perpetrators were 'acquaintances'. Elderly people also face difficulties in reporting their victimization due to a mindset of not wanting to burden their children. Experts emphasize that reducing social isolation among the elderly is the most effective way to prevent crime and highlight the importance of support from those around them and building networks.
