Marantz Launches New Cinema Series 2 Receivers: Enhanced Dolby Atmos, New DAC and HEOS
Marantz has just launched three new A/V receivers that are sure to appeal to movie and music enthusiasts looking for more than just an entry-level AVR.
While sister company Denon unveiled a pair of new receivers earlier this year, Marantz has taken its time to release its first new A/V receivers since 2022. Today is the day they finally make their debut. The company has just unveiled three new "Series 2" versions of its AV receivers: the Cinema 50 Series 2, Cinema 60 Series 2, and Cinema 70s Series 2.
A variation of the CINEMA 60 called the CINEMA 60 DAB Series 2 will be sold exclusively in Europe. We had a chance to preview these products earlier this year at the company's headquarters in Kawasaki, Japan, and we were quite impressed. All three models feature an updated and improved HEOS music streaming module and a new 8-channel 32-bit DAC, but the Cinema 50 Series 2 sees the biggest upgrade of the three.
The Marantz CINEMA 50 SERIES 2 AVR is available in black, but you can choose any color you want.
What's New with All CINEMA Series 2 Receivers?
• On-screen channel level monitoring – This feature shows you the signal each speaker channel is receiving in real time, allowing you to confirm that everything is working properly.
• New Web Control 2.0 interface – A sleek and modern web-based interface allows you to remotely configure and set up your new receiver from your smartphone, tablet, or PC.
• Newly improved 32-bit 8-channel DAC (digital-to-analog converter) – This new high-resolution DAC delivers higher quality digital audio playback for all speaker channels. The Cinema 50 Series 2 actually uses two of these 8-channel DACs to process all 15 processing channels (11 full-range channels and 4 subwoofer channels).
• Low latency Bluetooth LE Audio (future support via free OTA software update) – Bluetooth LE reduces wireless listening delay with compatible headphones and mobile devices.
• Upgraded HEOS module and platform – The new HEOS wireless multiroom music platform provides a more responsive streaming experience while expanding multiroom functionality.
• 1440p / AMD FreeSync compatibility – Gamers will appreciate the enhanced large screen gaming support. As with previous generations, all HDMI ports support HDMI 2.1 for optimal performance and flexibility.
• DIRAC Live room correction (paid option upgrade) – The Cinema 60 Series 2 and Cinema 70s Series 2 can now be upgraded with DIRAC Live room correction as an option. The Cinema 50 Series 2 (like its predecessor, the Cinema 50) can also be upgraded to use DIRAC Live, DIRAC Live Bass Control, or DIRAC Live ART (Active Room Treatment) for an additional fee.

Cinema 60 Series 2 and Cinema 70s Series 2 both include seven amplification channels, so you can choose a 5.1.2 channel immersive surround sound system or configure your main system as 5.1 channels and use an additional amp for music playback in a second zone. CINEMA 50 Series 2 and CINEMA 60 Series 2 both feature Marantz's proprietary HDAM amplifier modules instead of standard operational amplifiers for improved dynamic range and lower overall noise.
The flagship CINEMA 50 Series 2 offers nine amplification channels, but can be expanded to eleven channels by adding a separate power amplifier. It includes four independently controlled subwoofer outputs, allowing you to fine-tune performance for optimal bass response in nearly any listening position.
This allows you to choose 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 channel Dolby Atmos or DTS Sound using the built-in amplifiers, or configure up to 7.1.4 channels when adding a two-channel power amplifier. And in all cases, you can use one to four independently controlled subwoofers. CINEMA 50 Series 2 includes a full set of preamplifier outputs so you can upgrade some or all channels with external power amplifiers.
Marantz CINEMA 50 Series 2 can drive a full 7.1.4 channel surround sound system and includes six HDMI 2.1 ports, three HDMI outputs, and abundant additional analog and digital inputs and outputs.

While the Series 2 upgrades may seem more evolutionary than revolutionary, there are a few key improvements including a completely new multi-channel DAC infrastructure as well as an upgraded HEOS module that improves overall responsiveness and execution of the HEOS whole-home wireless music platform.
Furthermore, by incorporating this new HEOS chip, these receivers have the potential to be upgraded in the future to deliver multi-channel Dolby Atmos music within the HEOS platform – a feature currently possible with Denon's latest Home series speakers but not yet available on any AVR.
