Japanese Army Medical College officers conducted human experiments on malaria infection using 10 schizophrenic soldiers during the Sino-Japanese War. In this experiment, which was carried out to prevent the spread of malaria, medical officers infected soldiers with mosquitoes that had already been infected with the blood of Japanese soldiers. As a result, five soldiers developed symptoms such as high fever and headache due to malaria, and the medical officers administered medication after observing them for a certain period of time. This experiment raises ethical issues in that schizophrenic soldiers who were unable to participate in combat were used as subjects.
