According to a report published by the Korea Electronics Information and Communication Industry Promotion Association (KEA) titled "Strengthening Manufacturing Competitiveness of Korea's Home Appliance Industry in the Age of Physical AI," Chinese companies recorded a 36.1% global TV market share based on unit sales last year. Korea was recorded at 30.6%.
The gap in sales volume was even larger in other home appliance sectors. In the refrigerator market, Korean companies hold a 15% share, while China holds 41.7%. Even combining Samsung Electronics (8.0%) and LG Electronics (6.7%) sales fell short of Haier (21.6%). The washing machine market shows a similar trend, with LG Electronics at 7.3% and Samsung Electronics at 6.7%, significantly lagging behind first-place Haier at 24.7%. The combined market share of Chinese companies stands at 41.4%, roughly three times that of Korea.
Korean companies have an even narrower position in air conditioning and robot vacuum markets. In the global air conditioning market, LG Electronics ranks 4th with a 4.1% share, and Samsung Electronics ranks 11th with 1.9%. While the combined market share of Korean companies stands at just 6%, Chinese companies reached 64.5%.
In the robot vacuum market, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics at 1.4% and 0.7% respectively failed to rank in the top 10.
The rise of Chinese companies is not limited to expanding low-cost product supply.
The report analyzed that "China's rise is the result of ecosystem integration strategy, not simple price competition," and "Chinese companies have transformed into comprehensive global enterprises equipped with product development, manufacturing, distribution, service, and platforms, leveraging consumer touchpoints and data as new competitive assets."
While Chinese home appliance companies are rising rapidly, domestic home appliance production and exports have declined.
