Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae recommended Son Bong-ki (senior judge of the Daegu District Court) and Kim Seong-soo (senior judge of the Seoul High Court) to President Yoon Suk-yeol as successors to former Justices Noh Tae-ak and Lee Heung-koo. Both candidates are highly regarded as orthodox judges with excellent legal knowledge and practical abilities. If they pass the National Assembly's personnel hearing, they will become the first Supreme Court justices of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. The vacancy in the Supreme Court, which occurred after former Justice Noh Tae-ak retired in March, is also expected to be filled. The recommendation process for the Supreme Court justices was delayed for more than half a year due to differences in opinion between the presidential office and the judiciary.
