Gyeongsangnam-do Geoje and Tongyeong cities' Sanyang-eup and Bongpyeong-dong have been declared special disaster areas due to significant damage caused by recent heavy rainfall. This region will receive national support for recovery costs, and residents will be eligible for disaster relief funds, tax payment deferrals, and public utility fee reductions. Geoje and Tongyeong recorded the highest precipitation since meteorological observations began, resulting in considerable damage including casualties, flooding of houses, schools, and markets, road damage, and landslides. The government is working to quickly recover from the damage and restore the affected areas, and plans to examine other damaged regions for potential designation as special disaster zones.
