Lately, the Hermes I've been using has been constantly disappointing me.
Blender MCP Incident: I was initially using Blender MCP as introduced on Hermes' website, but a few days ago, that page was deleted without any explanation. After looking into it, there seems to be a possibility of source code contamination, so they just deleted the introduction page and didn't even explain it to existing users.
Free but Paid. Although it advertises itself as free and open-source, Hermes usage is indeed free, but each time the Hermes agent performs an action like a web search, it incurs a charge. It charges around $0.043 cents? Or was it $0.0043? In short, every time Hermes communicates with the outside world, it costs you.
WSL and Windows Native App. I initially used Hermes in WSL but then decided to try making games, so since all the development tools were for Windows, I reinstalled Hermes as a Windows desktop app. Now that I'm not using WSL anymore, I deleted it. As a result, the Windows version of Hermes stopped working. I requested an investigation from Codex. They said that the Windows version of Hermes was internally configured to match the WSL Hermes, so when I removed WSL, the Windows version died as well. There was no way to revive it, so I completely deleted the existing Hermes and reinstalled it. In the process, all the skills I had installed were lost, and I had to set up everything again, including API keys.
Inaccurate Updates. Recently, deepseek-v4-flash-vision was released. This model addresses the weakness of the previous deepseek model, which did not support vision, and finally adds vision functionality. A while ago, Hermes also updated so that deepseek-v4-flash-vision could be officially selected from the menu. However, Hermes cannot analyze images using deepseek v4 flash vision. Its internal logic always sends image analysis to a dedicated sub-agent whenever it encounters deepseek v4. In other words, even though they updated to allow the selection of the vision model, they didn't update the image analysis logic.
Etc.
Now Hermes doesn't seem to have many advantages anymore, and my trust in the development team has been shaken. I'm looking at the future of this product rather negatively.
