Two firefighters who participated in rescue efforts during the Itaewon tragedy died from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the Itaewon Special Investigation Committee recognized them as the 161st and 162nd victims of the disaster. Both firefighters suffered severe mental anguish after the disaster but did not receive sufficient treatment and support, ultimately dying by suicide. The Itaewon Special Investigation Committee also pointed out problems with Yongsan District Office's disaster management system, analyzing that on-duty personnel's lack of familiarity with manuals and delays in reporting the situation contributed to the crush.
