The Pongpet Bridge in Pangandaran collapsed during its inauguration due to overloading caused by many people crossing it. Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the bridge will likely have to be rebuilt because of its age (built in 1992) and the condition of the sling cables and cables which are no longer suitable. Although there were no fatalities, several people suffered minor injuries during the incident. The incident occurred when a group of Forkopimda officials crossed the bridge after a welcoming ceremony. Despite the collapse, the lower part of the bridge, 60 meters long, remained intact.
