I know about the traffic lights and that there are preliminary traffic lights a few meters before them.
The reason I wrote this separately is that traffic lights are, in the first place, a measure to prevent accidents.
By giving advance warning from afar of what's coming down, we can further prevent accidents caused by jaywalking. This is a practical reason.
If you think about it realistically, as long as cars don't block the way ahead, most people going downhill are moving fast,
and when crossing, many people look at their phones or only look across and don't check left and right. So, I included a warning system that uses sound or flashing lights.
I agree with putting traffic light facilities on Namsan Mountain.
Even if our bicycles don't know the signals, pedestrians need to be able to see from afar what's coming towards them, whether it's a green light or a red light.
You know that the crosswalk isn't directly visible when going downhill on a curve, right?
From a pedestrian's perspective, if it's quiet, they can only hear the sound of the ratchet from afar, and at night, they can only see the headlights coming in.
I asked because I thought it could be used to alert pedestrians who are standing still because they are taking pictures even though the light is red, or those who cannot hear the sound of the bicycle due to the noise during the day and are crossing the street.
If a cyclist is already slowing down when both parties see each other, it's too late unless the pedestrian jumps onto the sidewalk in an instant. Braking distance will be longer on a downhill slope than on flat ground. On one side, someone might shout "Hey hey" and fall asleep, while on the other side, someone might hesitate and collide. The possibility of a collision is very high.
I'm not saying we should get rid of it. This is just a hope for something to be added.
Even after 10 pm, I went up Namsan Mountain and rode downhill, and I saw pedestrians crossing even though the car signal was green.
