In October 2016, two months before turning 29.
A sudden realization.. of the meaningless and repetitive reality I was living in.
I decided to stop everything and plan a spontaneous bike trip.
The next day, I quickly bought a 'Yeger Marion (old model 105)' from a store near my house, and set off for Jeonju the following day.
"Ride while the sun is up"
It was a 3-day journey with no deadline.
For the first time, I realized how beautiful our country is.
- Watching the sunset over the Geumgang River and then the pitch black night without streetlights, riding through Gorangni and Gyeongju... unforgettable moments…
- Turning 30 soon, and looking back now, it was a rare and special experience and feeling.
This trip led me to dive into the world of serious cycling.
After my Jeonju trip, I tried even harder to ride my bike. I rode a 'Ridley Noah SL Paris' (purchased only the frame and transplanted the existing bike's drivetrain and wheels) and even sketched out dream bikes.
But life goes on.. Unexpected relocation, the Corona issue, marriage and childbirth put it off and it was forgotten for 10 years. My bike, which had been neglected, caught my eye while I was preparing to move.
Although I rode it occasionally, it was just enough to keep it running... I thought I should really enjoy it again, so I gradually increased the number of rides and found it fun. Eventually, I adjusted it to the settings I had dreamed of and even got a tune-up.
I'm someone who enjoys small things while riding alone, but today I want to boast about this overwhelming feeling, so I'm writing this late at night.
These days, trends have changed a lot and rim brake road bikes are fading from people's memories. But when I pedaled on the flat road after a long time, it felt like I was back to when I first rode a road bike. It's heartwarming.
