PlayStation Deletes 551 Movie Titles from User Libraries. Are Games Next?
PlayStation is deleting numerous movies from users' libraries, including Terminator 2, Judgment Day, and Rambo, without even offering an apology.
Although PlayStation ended its video store service in 2021, it promised that users would still be able to watch movies they had previously purchased on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
However, just a year later, in 2022, PlayStation deleted over 300 movies, breaking that promise. This has led people to wonder if the same thing could happen to their PlayStation game libraries.
The Deletions Resume
In September 2026, PlayStation is planning another large-scale movie deletion. This time, popular titles such as Terminator 2, Judgment Day, Rambo, From Dusk Till Dawn, Cliffhanger, and Deer Hunter are included.
These movies are products that customers paid full price for. PlayStation is not offering any refunds, compensation, or apologies, acting as if this entire situation is completely normal.
The company stated in a notice: "Due to content license agreements, you will no longer be able to access content previously purchased through Studio Canal starting September 1, 2026. These titles will be removed from your video library. Thank you for using the PlayStation Store."
The full list of 551 movies affected is available on the official PlayStation website along with the notice above. The full list is also included in the table below. The PlayStation Store sold movies until August 2021.
PS5 Games Subject to the Same Terms
The same terms apply to PS5 and PS4 games purchased through the PlayStation Store. PlayStation can delete any game from users' libraries if it decides to.
Looking at Sony PlayStation's service terms, it states: "1.4 User License Software is licensed, not sold, to the user. The user is granted a limited, non-exclusive, and non-transferable personal license to use the software for personal and non-commercial purposes only on the intended system or device."
Other game stores have also been forced to acknowledge this due to a new law passed in California in 2025. This law only exempts movie and game stores that provide permanent offline copies through downloads, which the PlayStation Store does not allow.
