The Cheong Wa Dae (presidential office) issued a public warning, calling it "inappropriate conduct," in response to Lee Byung-tae, co-chair of the Regulatory Rationalization Committee, posting on social media that "May 18th became a holy place." This statement was related to the controversy surrounding the cheerleading chant "We have to go to Starbucks" by the Baejae High School baseball team. Lee Byung-tae criticized this chant as "North Korean behavior." He later argued in additional posts that his remarks were an exercise of freedom of expression and that even shouting "Long live Kim Il-sung" should be allowed. Lee Byung-tae has recently expressed a critical stance towards the government's "three major megaprojects."
