The European Union(EU) assesses Makassar as a key investment hub in Eastern Indonesia. Antoine Ripoll , Counsellor and Head of the ASEAN Regional Integration Section at the EU Delegation to ASEAN, discussed with Makassar Mayor Munafri Ariffuddin ways to expand cooperation in investment, education and sustainable development. He also assessed Makassar as a strategic city playing the role of gateway for entry into Eastern Indonesia..
Both sides also discussed the need to ratify the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The EU stated its plan to support Indonesia's goal of becoming a developed country by 2045 through sustainable investment and human resource development.
