Samsung Electronics' Device Experience (DX) division has conducted a proof of concept (PoC) on autonomous operation for 1 to 4 hours in some factories and achieved meaningful results.
Hwang Il-kwon, head of Samsung Electronics Smart Factory Center, said this at the '2026 News1 Future Industry Forum (NFIF)' held on the morning of the 9th at the Conrad Seoul Park Ballroom in Yeouido, Seoul. The forum was themed "AI Transformation (AX) Changes Industrial Leadership - Success Keywords," and Hwang delivered a lecture titled "2030 AI Driven Factory: Autonomous Manufacturing Created by Humans and AI."
3-Stage Evolution Scenario Activated... Innovation Proven Throughout the Field
According to Hwang, Samsung Electronics' autonomous manufacturing factory is being promoted based on a 3-stage plan.
Field innovation cases are demonstrating explosive efficiency. Surface quality (SMD) secondary visual inspection, which previously took 30 seconds for humans to visually confirm, has been shortened to less than 0.3 seconds with AI judgment. In the TV production lines of six affiliates, AI analyzes image and appearance data and takes action, eliminating 112 hours of manual inefficiency per week.
Dangerous and cumbersome processes have also been significantly improved. For refrigerator compressor sealing tests, the traditional water pressure method has been abandoned. 3D vision AI analyzes current and voltage signals generated during welding in real time and predicts defects, increasing gas leak detection performance by 30%.
