The European Parliament adopted an amendment to the Electronic Privacy Regulation exception bill that allows voluntary inspection by electronic communications service providers to detect child sexual abuse material.
According to this bill, which will soon be published in the EU Official Journal, online direct communication platforms will be able to search large amounts of user data without a warrant under the pretext of finding child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

This vote result will resume "Chat Control 1.0," which was temporarily suspended due to the EU institutions' failure to agree on an extension. This is a temporary exception measure that allows US tech companies to inspect direct messages exchanged on services such as Instagram, Discord, Snapchat, Gmail, and iCloud without a warrant or prior suspicion.
