Aquaculture farms in the Taean region are facing growing concerns about high-temperature damage as seawater temperatures have risen to 25 degrees Celsius due to recent heat waves. Fishermen are suspending feed supplies to reduce the risk of fish mortality, and Taean County is providing immune boosters and special nets while working with fishing associations to establish emergency measures. The plan is to release farmed fish after disease tests when a high-temperature warning is issued. Last year, 930,000 fish died in the Taean region, and this July saw a record-breaking mass mortality event of 7.19 million fish.
