Get THR Bonus When Working in Indonesia! Information You Must Check Before Lebaran
If you live in Indonesia, you've probably heard the term THR(Tunjangan Hari Raya). Simply put, it's the concept of a holiday bonus in Indonesia!
Specifically, it's a bonus paid to all workers before the Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) holiday, which follows Ramadan.
This is not optional but legally guaranteed worker rights! Employers must ensure payment, and employees are entitled to receive this bonus.
What is THR?
THR is a religious holiday bonus legally mandated by the Indonesian government. All types of workers are eligible, including regular employees, contract workers, and non-regular workers. It even has to be paid to domestic workers, drivers, nannies, and other household staff.
THR Payment Criteria
✔Worked for 12 months or more: Receive an amount equal to your basic monthly salary.
✔Worked for less than 12 months: Calculated proportionally based on the number of months worked, (Salary ÷ 12 × Number of Months Worked)
✔Payment Deadline: Must be paid at least 7 days before the start of the religious holiday (Failure to comply results in fines! Indonesian Labor Law)
THR Payment Deadline for 2025
The Ramadan period in 2025 is from February 28th to March 30th, and the official Lebaran holiday is from March 31st to April 1st.
Therefore, THR must be paid by March 24th at the latest! Be careful as there may be legal penalties for missing the deadline.
Employers, Please Check Carefully!
Many foreigners employ domestic workers, drivers, and babysitters in Indonesia. They are also eligible for THR payment. It is customary to pay one month's salary. If the employment period is shorter, it should be calculated proportionally.
