New 8th-Generation Avante Equipped with 14.6-Inch QD LED Display

...

According to industry sources on the 28th, BOE VX, a subsidiary of Chinese company BOE, recently began mass production of a 14.6-inch quantum dot (QD) mini light-emitting diode (LED) center display for Hyundai Motor's new Avante. Tier 1 automotive parts supplier Auomotive (formerly Continental) will supply panels and modules, with Auomotive assembling them into finished displays for delivery to Hyundai Motor.

BOE VX initially developed the product based on a platform number rather than a specific model name from Hyundai Motor during the development stage. While the final application model was not confirmed at that time, it has been determined that the actual mass production target is the new Avante.

The mass-produced product features a 14.6-inch advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) liquid crystal display (LCD) with QD mini LED backlighting. It boasts a resolution of 2560×1440 and a maximum luminance of 1000 nits. With 627 local dimming zones, it achieves a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. The application of QD LED appears to be related to the operation of Hyundai Motor's next-generation infotainment system, Pleos, through the display.

This marks the first time BOE VX has supplied Hyundai Motor with a 10-inch or larger QD LED center display. Previously, they primarily dealt in smaller displays such as 5.3 inches and 7.5 inches, which used conventional LEDs instead of QD LEDs. QD technology enhances color reproduction, enabling brighter and sharper screen display.

Hyundai Motor recently developed a third-generation vehicle display platform consisting of three sizes: 9.9 inches, 14.6 inches, and 17 inches. All models incorporate QD mini LED technology.

The production schedule for the new Avante is expected to be delayed from the initial August launch to September. However, depending on the parts supply situation, there is a possibility that the schedule could be moved forward. The delay is attributed to the impact of a fire at the Daejeon-based automotive parts supplier "Safety Industrial" in March.
