ChatGPT Can Now Read and Send iMessages on Mac

OpenAI released an Apple Messages plugin for ChatGPT today. On Mac, ChatGPT can search messages, draft replies, analyze conversations, and send responses to contacts.
Therefore, ChatGPT can now access iMessage, SMS messages, and RCS messages. User approval is required to send messages, and OpenAI advises against allowing continuous approval.
To use the messaging integration feature, you need to grant ChatGPT full disk access permissions in system settings, as well as access to contact names and automation tools.
It is unknown to what extent Apple was involved in the development of this plugin. However, it utilizes AppleScript and Accessibility settings for ease of use. Currently, Apple is suing OpenAI for alleged trade secret theft.
