Four bodies presumed to be missing persons have been found consecutively over the past three days in Jeju Island. The incident, which began on the 22nd, has been confirmed to include a man in his 70s, a 37-year-old woman, and another missing person found near a valley in Aewol-eup. In particular, the 37-year-old woman was reported missing last May and her case was falsely closed by the officer in charge, leading to a re-report and subsequent search efforts. Jeju Island plans to extend the preservation period of public CCTV footage and expand the surveillance system using artificial intelligence in response to the increasing trend of missing person cases. It also intends to establish a verification system in cooperation with the Autonomous Police Commission to prevent mishandling of cases. Experts point out that a more systematic investigation and timely response are necessary through strengthening the welfare system for high-risk missing persons and improving the police's 'runaway handling work rules'.
