IKEA Launches 9-Piece Xbox Collection: Bringing Gaming Hardware into Home Decor
Grab your hex wrench, Microsoft and IKEA have just unveiled a 9-piece home furniture lineup called YXSTABY. Revealed at Gamescom 2026, this collection transforms familiar Xbox controller hardware into furniture, fusing gaming aesthetics with living spaces.

According to Xbox Design Lead Carl Ledbetter, the partnership stemmed from a long-standing unspoken connection between the two brands. Ledbetter even revealed that for years, "the standard furniture we use when testing console designs is actually IKEA's BILLY bookcase," highlighting that both brands share common goals of scale, accessibility, and harmony with everyday home environments.

Designing the YXSTABY collection required adapting consumer hardware concepts to IKEA's strict flatpack logistics and assembly conditions. While typical hardware development ends with a finished console in a box, furniture design demanded that these large controller elements be easily shipped and assembled, seamlessly integrating into gaming spaces and beyond.
The designers addressed this by subtly incorporating details for enthusiasts, such as adding Xbox green stitching to the otherwise muted gray and black fabrics, without overtly screaming "gamer's den." For example, the ergonomic lounge chair is designed to support two distinct postures: a forward-leaning position for competitive focus and a reclined position for comfortable play or reading.
