1️⃣ Attention college students! Google Gemini AI Pro plan free for 1 year
Google has made its paid AI plan free for college students for a year. Students in the US can get the top plan (AI Pro), while students in over 140 countries, including ours, can get AI Plus. Study-specific features (study notes, practice quizzes, 3D materials) are also provided. However, you need to register a payment method when applying, and it will automatically become paid after one year, so if you don't plan to continue using it, set a cancellation reminder in advance. Applications are open until December 31st.
2️⃣ 'ox-alpha,' the mystery rookie shaking up the AI industry
An AI called 'ox-alpha' appeared on the internet without a company name or documentation and rose to the top of coding rankings. Speculation about "who created it" raged for days. Finally, its identity was revealed. It was Z.ai(GLM series), a Chinese AI company. This 'stealth launch,' where the name is hidden and the product is quietly released to generate buzz, is becoming popular these days, and powerful and affordable AIs from China are continuing to emerge.
3️⃣ ChatGPT came into my 'message box'
ChatGPT now has a feature that reads and summarizes text messages (iMessage, SMS, RCS) on Mac and even drafts replies. It can summarize missed messages or prepare replies for you. However, concerns quickly spread after the announcement about "isn't it looking at all my messages?" In reality, it only works when you turn on the permission (opt-in), and it always requires your approval before sending a message. It seems like each individual should decide whether the convenience outweighs the privacy concerns.
4️⃣ Camera in wireless earbuds? Apple's next-generation AirPods leaked (Technology & Economy)
There are rumors that Apple's next AirPods will have a small camera. It's not so much a camera for taking pictures, but more like an 'eye' to help AI understand what you're looking at. For example, it could tell you what book you're reading, let you control things with gestures, and adjust the sound based on your head movements. However, Apple hasn't officially announced anything yet, and there are conflicting reports about the release date - some say this fall, others say 2027. Privacy concerns are also being raised.
