After going through rivalries between Nam Jin and Na Hoon-a in the 1960s, and trends like group sound and folk music in the 1970s, K-pop opened new horizons with the emergence of 'King of Singers' Jo Yong-pil, Seo Taiji and Boys. The Korean Wave, which started with the debut of H.O.T., gained global popularity through BoA, Psy, BTS, and others, raising the status of Korean popular music.
