1️⃣ Nvidia, 'GitHub of AI' Hugging Face for 18 trillion won?
There's news that Nvidia, the AI semiconductor giant, is acquiring a company called Hugging Face for 18 trillion won. Hugging Face is a platform where 1.3 million developers worldwide share AI models. If Nvidia acquires this 'platform' in addition to its chips (hardware), it will essentially control the entire AI ecosystem. However, the official contract hasn't been finalized yet, and there are concerns about whether a neutral space used by everyone should belong to one company.
2️⃣ "AI Creates Itself?" OpenAI Announces 'Internal AGI'
Sam Altman of OpenAI said that the company will have AGI (an AI as intelligent as a human in all aspects) for internal use by the end of the year, causing quite a stir. It's important to note that this is still a goal, and it's based on Altman's own standards. The new AI 'Astra' can reportedly write its own code and conduct experiments. While a truly 'fully automated AI researcher' is targeted for 2028, the company's official stance is more cautious, emphasizing "AI and humans working together." There are high expectations but also concerns that it might be too ambitious.
3️⃣ OpenAI's Own Chip 'Halapeno,' Will It Surpass Nvidia?
OpenAI is developing its own AI chip called 'Halapeno' to reduce reliance on Nvidia chips. This chip is specialized in processing responses and aims to lower the cost of expensive chips and electricity bills. However, it's premature to say that it will "surpass Nvidia." Actual deployment is scheduled for the end of this year, and performance benchmarks need to be verified. For now, it's best to see it as an attempt to reduce dependence.
4️⃣ Apple Finally Breaks the 2nm Barrier! 'M6' & 'M5 Ultra' Unveiled (Technology & Economy)
Apple has unveiled the 'M6' chip, the world's first to be manufactured using a 2nm process. In semiconductors, the narrower the circuit line width (the smaller the nano number), the faster and more power-efficient it becomes. The AI processing performance of the M6 is about 30% better than its predecessor. The top-of-the-line 'M5 Ultra' chip can accommodate up to 512GB of memory, meaning you can run large AI models on your Mac without relying on the cloud. However, due to the surge in memory prices, the cost has increased slightly.
