The Lee Jae-myung administration has decided to accelerate the relocation of public institutions to local areas in order to promote balanced national development. Starting with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, 350 or so public institutions will be relocated to Sejong, and similar function mergers will also be promoted. This aims to solve the problem of Seoul metropolitan area concentration and revitalize the local economy. However, there are potential difficulties such as internal opposition from public institutions and conflicts of interest between regions. The government has promised to minimize these variables by gathering diverse opinions and preparing support measures.
