AMD is reportedly planning to equip next-generation Ryzen desktop processors with AI-dedicated computing devices (NPU) instead of integrated graphics (iGPU).

According to foreign media, the next-generation Ryzen CPU in development under the codename 'Olympic Ridge' is planned to be designed based on the Zen 6 architecture and TSMC's 2nm-class process.

The biggest change is the inclusion of NPU. AMD is already applying NPU to some mobile processors, but this is the first time NPU will be applied to standard desktop Ryzen CPUs.

On the other hand, the integrated graphics (iGPU) that are currently provided as standard in Ryzen processors are reportedly being excluded. As a result, users will apparently need to install a separate discrete graphics card for display output.

The Olympic Ridge product line is expected to offer a maximum of 24-core configuration and an enhanced cache structure. Additionally, DDR5 memory support is expected to be strengthened, and the latest platform features such as Wi-Fi 7 are also expected to be supported.
