A cuckoo couple is raising their chicks in an oak forest located in Seonangdang on the outskirts of Gangneung City, Gangwon Province. When the female cuckoo returns to the nest with food, she makes a beautiful and soft sound as if soothing her chicks, but when guarding against intruders, she attacks with a harsh sound. In this way, cuckoos show the characteristic of making different sounds depending on the situation. In the forest of Seonangdang, various kinds of birds such as bluebirds and goldfinches inhabit besides cuckoos, competing for nests and food. This forest ecosystem shows the wonder of nature and the value of motherhood.
