In recent years, 'compound disasters' in which heavy rains and heat waves occur simultaneously have increased three times compared to the past 30 years. The Greenpeace and KAIST research team analyzed the results of developing the 'Compound Climate Extreme Intensity Index'(CI28) and confirmed that the intensity of heavy rain and heat waves has intensified and the number of occurrences has also increased. The research team warned that due to global warming, the rapid transition between heavy rains and heat waves is intensifying, increasing the risk of compound disasters. Therefore, they emphasized the urgent need to improve the existing disaster response system and devise measures to effectively prepare for compound disasters.
