The World Island Expo to be held in Yeosu in 2026 will be held under the theme of 'Connecting Islands, Seas and the Future' from September 5th to November 4th. Korea ranks within the top 10 in the world for island ownership, and there are over 300 islands located in the Jeonnam Gwangju region. This expo is a place to share the value of islands and discuss various solutions to problems such as climate crisis response. The target number of domestic and foreign visitors is 3 million, and the total project cost is 70.3 billion won, which will be funded by national funds, special city funds, Yeosu city funds, and business profits. Ahead of the opening, the Minister of Public Administration and Security and the Mayor of Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City are conducting final checks on the expo operation status through site inspections and preview day events.
