South Korea's golf prodigy Kim Ju-hyeong, who had been in a slump, confirmed his hope after completing the 126th US Open Golf Tournament on June 22 (Korean time).
Kim finished third alone at one under par 279 strokes, three strokes behind the winner Wyndham Clark (USA, four under par 276).
This was his best performance in a US Open since finishing tied for eighth place in 2023.
In an official interview after the tournament ended, Kim said, "For the first time, I really felt how close winning a major championship could be." He added, "Looking back at this week, I was able to confirm just how close I am to actually winning."
Kim also compared his current state with when he finished second in the 2023 British Open.
At that time, Kim, who had injured his ankle, said, "I aimed for a cut and ended up finishing second without realizing it."
In contrast, this tournament saw him competing at full health. He stated, "Although I was nervous, I competed in top condition. With just a few more improvements, I felt that I could definitely win one of these trophies (major championship cups)."

Although Kim qualified for this year’s US Open through regional qualifying, he has already secured a spot in next year's tournament by finishing among the top 10.
In addition to winning third-place prize money of $1,532,530 (approximately KRW 2.3 billion), Kim's world ranking improved from 64th place. His FedEx Cup ranking also jumped from 98th last week to 55th this week.
After a poor season that had put his qualification for the PGA Tour Playoffs in jeopardy, finishing at FedEx Cup ranking 70th or higher, Kim has regained his momentum.
