Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa will implement an export tax on jewelry with a certain weight to prevent gold smuggling practices. This policy is outlined in the revision of the Finance Minister's Regulation and aims to address attempts at evasion by packaging gold as jewelry to avoid export duties. Purbaya explained that the increase in gold smuggling occurred due to the export duty policy, which made some parties reluctant to pay. He suspects that smuggled gold originates from illegal gold mining (PETI) and emphasizes the need for strict supervision at all exit points in Indonesia. People who want to take gold abroad are urged to be honest with Customs officers and comply with applicable regulations.
