Green Business Center (GBC)


The Green Business Center (GBC) is an international organization that aims to discover and nurture global green business models by utilizing Korea's excellent green technology and Indonesia's abundant green resources. Established in 2011 through a memorandum of understanding between the Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, GBC promotes sustainable development and cooperation between the two countries.

Importance of Indonesia and Background of Establishment

  • Significance of SMEs:
    • SMEs in Indonesia account for over 60% of the total GDP and constitute 99% of all businesses.
    • Indonesia is an emerging market in Southeast Asia experiencing rapid growth and actively attracting foreign investment.
  • Background of Establishment:
    • Recognizing the need for green growth and SME cooperation at the 2010 ASEM Forum.
    • Establishment of GBC in 2011 through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two governments.
    • Established with matching funds from the Korean and Indonesian governments, jointly operated by the Indonesian Cooperative Association and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (KUKM), and the ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC).


Significance of the Green Business Center

GBC functions as a hub for SME cooperation between Korea and Indonesia to expand green growth and environment-centered businesses. It is establishing itself as a global platform that supports sustainable development and economic growth.
