A man in his 70s who brandished a sickle and fled from the Ilmin Museum of Art in the Dong-A Ilbo building in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, was caught by police about 10 hours after the crime.
Jongno Police Station announced on the 26th that it has arrested and is investigating a man in his 70s, identified as A, on charges of attempted murder for wounding an acquaintance with a sickle and fleeing.
A stabbed his acquaintance, a man in his 40s identified as B, at the Ilmin Museum of Art at around 7:47 a.m. that day, then fled by taxi through Samgakji in Yongsan-gu, Noryangjin in Dongjak-gu, and other areas.
Police identified his route through CCTV and other means, then arrested A at the residence of an acquaintance located in Gwanak-gu.
Police secured a bag believed to belong to A at the scene, and it was reported that a white container with gasoline was found inside the bag.
B, who was injured in the arm, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and his life is not in danger.
The two are acquaintances, with A working on cleaning-related duties around the office building and B also having worked inside the office building before recently submitting a resignation letter.
Police plan to investigate the circumstances and motives of the crime involving A and then apply for an arrest warrant.
