(Seoul=Yonhapnews) Reporter Ha Chae-rim = Former People Power Party Lawmaker In Yo-han, elected as chairman of the Korean Red Cross, said on the 24th, "I regret and reflect on not stepping forward openly and actively in opposition to martial law at the time of the emergency martial law."
In a phone call with Yonhapnews on this day, the former lawmaker said, "I judged that stepping down from my position as a member of the National Assembly at the end of last year was taking responsibility through action."
It appears that the former lawmaker's statement through the media expressing a position of "reflection" was in response to continued criticism even from the Lee Jae-myung administration's support base and indications that a formal apology was necessary.
Previously, the Red Cross held a Central Committee meeting on the 22nd and elected the former lawmaker as the 32nd chairman. He will take office after being confirmed by President Lee Jae-myung.
However, criticism continues that appointing someone who essentially supported former President Yoon, such as by not participating in the impeachment vote on President Yoon Suk-yeol after the emergency martial law in 2024, as the head of the Red Cross is inappropriate.
